There are approximately one million Australians living with and beyond cancer and that number is growing rapidly. The most common issue faced by cancer survivors is fear of cancer recurrence (FCR).
Almost 50% of cancer survivors experience moderate to high FCR, which is associated with psychological distress, poorer quality of life, and greater healthcare use. Help managing FCR is the most commonly reported unmet need in cancer survivors.
Several face-to-face FCR interventions delivered by mental health specialists, including PoCoG’s ConquerFear intervention, have demonstrated efficacy in treating FCR. However, these interventions cannot practically meet the needs of the many thousands of cancer survivors likely struggling with FCR.
Developing models of care that increase FCR treatment access has been identified as the top FCR research priority.
In this webinar three superstar Australian clinician researchers (Dr Jenny Liu, Prof Louise Sharpe and Dr Maria Ftanou) will present novel intervention FCR treatment models to increase FCR treatment access: oncologist-led, nurse-led and stepped care for FCR.
