The OAK Study

Researchers from The University of Queensland and the OAK Study Steering Committee, in partnership with the ANZUP Cancer Trials Group, are conducting interviews with people affected by small renal masses and kidney cancer - and healthcare professionals involved in their care and support.


Understanding Active Surveillance to Improve the Outcomes of Australians Living with Kidney Cancer (OAK Study):

A qualitative study conducted by researchers from The University of Queensland in partnership with the ANZUP Cancer Trials Group.

What is the purpose of this research?

To understand how people experience and make decisions about active surveillance for small renal masses and kidney cancer. Your insights will help improve communication, information, and decision-support for future patients and families.

Who can take part?

Adults residing in Australia or New Zealand who are:

  • Diagnosed with a small renal mass or kidney cancer, or

  • Spouses, partners, close relatives or friends supporting someone with a diagnosis, or

  • Healthcare professionals involved in kidney cancer care

What does participation involve?

A one-on-one interview via Microsoft Teams or telephone to discuss your experiences and views.

Will I be compensated?

There are no payments for this study. Participation is voluntary, and your contribution is greatly valued.
